The main-event bout featured a clash of styles, as Kadestam’s vast striking expertise was matched against Abbasov’s formidable grappling and boxing repertoire.

When the bell rang to begin the contest, the Swede landed the first offense of note with a looping punch and a powerful leg kick, which nearly dropped his rival to the canvas.

Abbasov remained on his feet, however, and soon closed the distance. He clinched with Kadestam against the Circle’s fenced wall, threw a few knees, got low, and hit the takedown he was looking for. The Kyrgyz athlete dropped some ground strikes and nearly secured a bout-ending guillotine choke, but the bell saved “The Bandit.”

An attempted spinning back kick from Kadestam early in round two brought gasps from the crowd inside the Istora Senayan. The welterweight king continued to threaten with kicks, and he also found success with his close-range elbows.

However, it was Abbasov who once again shut down the Swede’s thunderous attack. He wore heavy on the 29-year-old against the fence and finished the period strong with a barrage of strikes.

In the third frame, Abbasov leaned on his dynamic grappling skills, as he sent Kadestam to the canvas twice with eye-catching takedowns. The first came from a perfectly-executed outside trip, and the second was a belly-to-belly rolling slam that drove the welterweight king into the mat. From there, he delivered some knees to the body and punches to the face.

Round four was equally dominant for “Brazen,” who switched from grappling to striking at the start of the frame. He connected with a host of big punches and chased the backpedaling Stockholm resident around the Circle.

Eventually, he caught up with his man and, after some more punishing strikes, took him to the mat. From there, he maintained side control for the duration of the round, and he landed an assortment of powerful knees to Kadestam’s ribs and head.

After falling behind in the previous rounds, ”The Bandit” looked to make his last stand in the fifth and final stanza. He went head-hunting in a bid to score the knockout victory, but he found the Novorosfight-trained athlete to be too durable and too strong.

Not only did Abbasov dodge and absorb everything Kadestam threw at him, but he countered with strikes of his own as the contest went all the way to the judges’ scorecards.

After 25 minutes of action, the judges awarded the unanimous decision nod to the “Brazen” warrior.

This victory elevated Abbasov’s phenomenal mixed martial arts record to 22-4 and it made him the fourth ONE Welterweight World Champion crowned in The Home Of Martial Arts.
