Hiroyuki Tetsuka Finishes Edson Marques With Third-Round KO

Hiroyuki Tetsuka knocks out Edson Marques at ONE: ONLY THE BRAVE.

Hiroyuki “Japanese Beast” Tetsuka scored another impressive finish in ONE’s welterweight mixed martial arts division, knocking out striker Edson “Panico” Marques in round three at ONE: ONLY THE BRAVE.

The Tochigi native dominated Marques with his grappling across the first two rounds, before exploding with a huge left hook to claim the victory at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Friday, 28 January.

Tetsuka looked to chop down his taller foe with low kicks early, but his first real impactful offense came with a driving double-leg takedown that landed him in top position.

“Japanese Beast” spent much of the first stanza there, chipping away with short punches as the Brazilian held on tight to keep his hulking rival close.

The action eventually returned to the feet, where Tetsuka scored with a pair of thudding hooks to the body and “Panico” struggled to find his range.

In round two, Marques did find a home for some jabs and stuffed Tetsuka’s first takedown attempt, but the Yamada Dojo and TGFC representative continued to press forward and barreled his opponent over off a kick.

From there, “Japanese Beast” took control, scoring with short shots while Marques hung on and tried to stem the flow.

“Panico” needed to pull something out of the bag in the final stanza, but it was Tetsuka who took the initiative. The 31-year-old started with hard low kicks – and then found a finish out of nowhere.

The closing sequence took place as both athletes stepped in for left hooks at the same time.

It was the bulkier Japanese man who found the mark, as his punch landed on Marques’ chin and sat him down to the canvas, where the referee quickly waved off the action at 1:05.

“Japanese Beast” has now earned back-to-back knockout wins on the global stage, pushing his overall record to 11-4 and putting him within touching distance of ONE Welterweight World Title contention.
