What Could Be Next For The Big Winners Of ONE: A NEW BREED III?

Capitan Petchyindee Academy makes ONE Super Series history!

ONE Championship thrilled with its last flagship event of the month on Friday, 18 September.

The world’s largest martial arts organization aired the previously recorded ONE: A NEW BREED III from Bangkok, Thailand, and the card featured a captivating World Title main event, a historic co-main event, and four more bouts that entertained from beginning to end.

Before we look ahead to October, let’s take a brief glimpse into the future and see who could be the next opponents for three of the night’s biggest winners.

Petchmorakot Petchyindee Academy

It’s been a perfect year for ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion Petchmorakot Petchyindee Academy.

The Thai earned his third victory of 2020 at ONE: A NEW BREED III, successfully defending his belt against challenger Magnus “Crazy Viking” Andersson via third-round TKO in the main event.

Petchmorakot stayed true to his game plan, as he continuously pressed forward with punches and elbows. The damage quickly accumulated on the Swede, but the reigning titleholder was only warming up.

Next, a picture-perfect left cross landed on the Swede’s face, which put him on jelly legs and forced the referee to administer a standing eight-count. Once the action continued, the Petchyindee Academy star followed up with an elbow and jab-cross combination, leading the referee to immediately call off the match.

It was a signature victory for Petchmorakot, who continues to rule the featherweight Muay Thai division with an iron fist. Perhaps his next fight will be the long-awaited showdown with Jamal “Kherow” Yusupov.

The Russian burst onto the scene in November 2019, as he accepted a short-notice bout against “The Boxing Computer” Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex and knocked the legend out in the second round.

That victory earned Yusupov a chance to challenge Petchmorakot for the inaugural ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Championship in February, but he was forced to withdraw from the historic matchup due to injury.

These days, the Russian is the #2-ranked contender in the division. Maybe now, his tantalizing ONE World Title fight with Petchmorakot will finally happen.

Sunisa Srisen

Sunisa “Thunderstorm” Srisen may have fallen in her promotional debut, but she earned some redemption on Friday night.

The teenage judoka used leg kicks and looping punches to rattle her compatriot, Rika “Tiny Doll” Ishige, and she even reversed takedown attempts to put the Thai mixed martial arts pioneer in a headlock from side control.

That allowed the teen star to leave Bangkok with the victory. Next, she could be standing across the ring from Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres.

Torres enjoyed a strong start to her mixed martial arts career, using her grappling and stinging punches to earn four consecutive victories, including a second-round submission win over Ishige back in August 2017.

The Filipina is still quite young in her martial arts career. And just like “Thunderstorm,” she’s still adding weapons to her arsenal and looking to gate-crash the rankings.

With similarities in their fighting styles and a burning passion to get closer to their ONE World Title dreams, this atomweight encounter could be the perfect next step for both Srisen and Torres.

Capitan Petchyindee Academy

Three-time Muay Thai World Champion Capitan Petchyindee Academy produced one of the most impressive performances in 2020 at ONE: A NEW BREED III.

The 27-year-old Thai star made a successful transition to kickboxing by stunning six-time Muay Thai and Kickboxing World Champion Petchtanong Petchfergus in a record-breaking six seconds.

Much was said of Capitan’s tremendous knockout power, and that was on full display in Bangkok. After batting down a jab, the Thai fired a quick jab-cross combo that instantly shut off his veteran opponent’s lights.

Fans only saw a brief glimpse of the Petchyindee Academy star, but a match against #4-ranked bantamweight kickboxing contender Liam “Hitman” Harrison would reveal more about his kickboxing prowess.

Like Capitan, Harrison is an accomplished practitioner in “the art of eight limbs.” In fact, the Brit is an eight-time Muay Thai World Champion who is explosive and packs tremendous power in both his legs and his kicks.

Elbows wouldn’t be allowed in this kickboxing scenario, but that’s alright. Both men are heavy hitters who would undoubtedly entertain for as long as the match would last.

And after “Hitman” lost to another Petchyindee star in Petchmorakot nearly two years ago, there would be some extra motivation for him, too.
