Tan, who spent most of his career in the welterweight division, previously moved down to lightweight so he could compete in what he feels is his natural weight class. But any thoughts of being able to use his size and strength to dominate his opponent were erased after the very first exchange of the contest.

Yoon surprised his 34-year-old opponent early by shooting for a takedown and bringing the powerfully-built Filipino down to the canvas. However, “Jun Minion” recomposed himself and utilized his own wrestling skills to score a succession of takedowns.

At one point, Tan briefly threatened with an arm-triangle choke. But the Seoul native remained composed and, after working his way back to his feet, took control of the contest with his striking.

The 25-year-old South Korean leaned on his kickboxing and amateur boxing experience, as he connected with stiff left jabs and solid right hands.

After establishing his striking dominance, Yoon loaded up on his shots and dropped his rival with a powerful right cross. Referee Olivier Coste stopped the match at the 4:05 mark of round one to spare “Jun Minion” from any unnecessary damage.

It gave “The Big Heart” his first-ever TKO victory, as well as the second first-round win in his burgeoning mixed martial arts career.
