“I want to thank everyone who came out to support me. I feel so excited to win here today,” the 22-year-old Zhongshan, China native told Mitch Chilson in his post-bout interview.

“I did a lot of research on my opponent, so I knew I could catch him with that punch if I traded with him. It was a little bit of a different approach, but I wanted to showcase all of my skills today.”

Peng certainly threw a lot of punches, and felt extremely confident in doing so against an accomplished boxer.

The two martial artists opened the strawweight encounter by sizing each other up, carefully plotting their strategy, and trading the occasional leg kick.

Kalai operated just slightly out of range and looked to utilize his reach advantage.

As he moved in to throw a combination, Peng timed a perfectly-placed overhand right, which instantly dropped “The Clown” to the canvas.

The Chinese wrestler immediately swarmed with rapid-fire punches, which prompted referee Yuji Shimada to save Kalai from absorbing any unnecessary damage. He waved off the contest at the 57-second mark of the opening round.
