Another integral and crucial component in Lee’s life on and off the mats is his fiancée Katie, who he first met in high school six years ago.
The couple were kindred spirits even before they began dating, and that eventually led to their romantic connection.
“We were actually on the high school wrestling team together,” Lee reveals.
“She wrestled in high school, and then she started training at my gym, so she’s been training ever since we met. She’s seen me fight at the local shows, kickboxing events, grappling tournaments, and in amateur mixed martial arts fights.
“She’s seen it all from the time before I was a professional, all the way until now.”
Having a supportive partner is hugely important for a professional mixed martial artist whose career can be taxing on the mind and body.
In that regard, Lee says he found the perfect match. As an athlete and martial artist herself, Katie could appreciate exactly what her man was going through as he began his career.

“It definitely helps to have a partner who has the same passion as you, and is on the same journey as you,” he says.
“She helps out in the gym every single day, she helps me teach classes, and she trains every day as well.
“We’re together all day long, and we’re both doing something we love. That’s what keeps our relationship so strong.”
Because his job is so demanding, Lee knows that he has to lean on the people around him to help him get ready for his upcoming bouts, and deal with the day-to-day rigors that come along with being a full-time mixed martial artist.
“The Warrior” says his fiancée is invaluable in that sense – she is the foundation of of his training camp by making sure he has everything necessary to succeed.

“She’s always been extremely supportive of my career and supportive of my life since the time we met. She’s been there with me through it all. I definitely could not do it without her,” Lee says.
“She’s at home getting the house ready, she helps to cook my meals for me, she works here at my gym, and we see each other every day. I couldn’t be more grateful to have her in my life.
“You have to have people who are on the same journey as you – people who support your vision and support your values. That’s what I have,” Lee adds.
“I’m extremely grateful. I know it’s not an easy thing to get but between my family, my fiancée, and everybody else in the gym, I just have a perfect team around me right now. I feel like that’s why I’m growing leaps and bounds ahead of my competition.”
The Evolve and United MMA representative’s support network has helped to take him from a debut as a teenager to the ultimate test of his abilities on the biggest stage in martial arts by the age of just 20.

When he enters the ring in the Singapore Indoor Stadium next week to face Aoki, Katie will be there with the rest of his team and family to help him execute his game plan, and emerge with gold around his waist.
“She sits in the corner with me. She’s there with me for the whole process,” Lee says.
“She will be there when I win the World Championship.”
