Unsurprisingly given the two athletes’ backgrounds in stand-up martial arts, the bout started off with both women looking to strike.

However, after the early punches and kicks were traded, Wulan closed the distance and initiated the first clinch of the contest.

The Indonesian State Muay Thai Champion looked to force Nguyen against the fence and unleash her knees, but the Tiger Muay Thai-trained “Killer Bee” smartly reversed position and then got away from danger.

The Legacy Amateur Champion then turned to her ground skills to unlock her path to victory when Wulan attempted another clinch. Nguyen performed a nice trip to put her opponent on the canvas, where she transitioned swiftly into mount.

Almost immediately, the 29-year-old unloaded some hard ground and pound, which proved to be too much for Wulan to take.

Overwhelmed by the strikes that were raining down on her, Wulan rolled over and gave up her back, which offered Nguyen the opportunity to push for the finish with a barrage of punches and elbows.

The Indonesian could not defend herself effectively, and the bout was waved off at the 3:55 mark of the opening round.

It was the perfect start for Nguyen, who announced her arrival on the global stage with the first stoppage win of her career.

That improved her professional record to 5-3 and consigned Wulan to the first defeat of her young professional career.
